Suggested by the great Greek poet Constantine P. Cavafy, “M’arrêter ici…” recounts the stories of these Asia Minor communities driven by a desire for elsewhere or tossed about by history, in search of a place to put an end to their wandering. For this recording, Dominique Vellard and Ourania Lampropoulou focused on the Orient, and drew inspiration from the cultural diversity found in the late 19th century Smyrna. They have selected music from the Greek, Sephardic and Ottoman traditions. As a tribute to this rich heritage, Dominique Vellard has composed three melodies for voice, oud and santouri, all of which naturally inscribe in the historical repertoire.

Suggéré par le grand poète grec Constantin Cavafis, “M’arrêter ici…” nous parle de ces communautés d’Asie Mineure poussées par un désir d’ailleurs ou ballotées par l’histoire, en quête d’un lieu où mettre un terme à leur errance.

Pour cette rencontre, Dominique Vellard et Ourania Lampropoulou ont visé l’Orient, et se sont inspirés de l’incroyable diversité culturelle de la ville de Smyrne à la fin du XIXe siècle. Au santouri et au oud, ils s’appuient sur les répertoires grecs, séfarades et ottomans anciens, mêlant improvisations et chants traditionnels. En hommage à ce riche héritage, Dominique Vellard a composé trois mélodies pour voix, oud et santouri sur des poèmes de Constantin Cavafis, qui s’intègrent naturellement dans le répertoire historique.
